Adult class begins tonight!

Adult class with Fr. Mike, tonight, 7 pm, Math room - junior high wing of the school. Fr. Mike has been announcing the past few weeks in the bulletin (the announcement is below) that he will start a class for adults who want to know more about the Catholic faith tonight, Jan. 3. It is in response to several parishioners' requests for such a class. Hope you can make it! Please spread the word!

Want to know more about the Catholic Faith? Have you ever said to yourself, "I should know that, but I don't". Then you are too anxious to ask some one for the answer or help. Well many times people say something like that about their Catholic faith. I will start an adult class for people who would like to learn more about their Catholic faith starting from the beginning. We will run it for ten weeks and see where it goes from there. I will have an outline of the topics but I encourage you to bring your questions. You will be able to either ask in class or write them down anonymously and get them to me. If I do not know the answer I will do research and find out. We will try to keep it simple.

Typical questions I have been asked: "What is the difference between Fast and Abstinence?" "If two non-Catholics marry and then get divorced, then one of the non-Catholics wants to marry a Catholic does the non-Catholic need to receive an annulment of their marriage?" "What are the Holy Days of Obligation?" "How many times can a person receive the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick for the same illness?" "It's OK for an engaged couple to have sexual relations before they get married, right?" "I heard something about the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. What are they?"

Does this sound like something you would be interested in partaking? We will begin January 3rd at 7:00 PM. Call Fr. Mike at 301-649-3700 ext 311 to say you are interested or just show up.

And I bet you are hoping some of us (me) will go ask him some of the wierd questions we (I) come up with right?

I know this can't be done but sometimes I wish nuns could hear our confessions so it would be less embarrassing! Sometimes its easier for women to talk to other women.

There is so many ways to donate to your parish. Some people donate, time, talent etc. I have decided to donate books. That way I can buy books ( I love them!) knowing in time it will go to my church.
So many books so little time!

Kat,

I am sure you don't ask weird questions just challenging ones.

Warm weather;

you are talking to the girl who asked how Church Docterine's are developed... and who has a whole list of other questions I could break out that would probably turn FG's hair white...

Kat do you believe in second chances? What I mean is, say because you got sick you messed something up but that was not your intention should you get a second chance? I want to volunteer for something in the church and by the time the volunteering time comes I will have more experience and education under my belt.

I still don't think you will turn FG's hair white because I have seen your questions and comments and they aren't off the wall or anything.

OOps I forgot to add : Should I just volunteer and see what happens?" I am actually doing this thing at another church which is far and I want to do this at my parish so I can do all my volunteering at one place and not bee all over the place.

Thanks for your input in advance.

Nuns hearing confession-anon-What a thought provoking statement. I have heard many people (both Catholics &non Catholics), comment how can a priest understand/relate/help a female sinner, a married sinner, a mother, a teenage girl, a single woman because they don't have direct experience living in female roles. Also I get the embarrassing part, especially relating to sexuality.

Well..........speaking as a female, I am astounded by the wisdom from priests during confession. I am not referring to any one priest, but to ALL of the priests who have listened to my confessions over the years. As a matter of fact, their understanding/knowledge has actually blown me away. I am speaking of wisdom/knowledge concerning women and women's roles/issues/vocations. Recall that priests spend years learning all this stuff, and they hear all kinds of sins. Priests also are given divine graces from Jesus. One of the graces is the ability to forgive sins and advise the sinner. Never underestimate the power of this grace.

Lastly, women need other women....as mentors....friends who aren't afraid to advise/correct us. We can confide a lot of things to our female family and friends.
Yet they have not been given the divine grace to grant Jesus' forgiveness of our sins. This is all biblical. As Jesus gave Peter and the apostles the ability to forgive sins. I am sure Father Greg could provide that scripture reading.

It can be embarrassing, but remember priests are forbidden to to reveal our sins to anyone!

If it wern't for second chances (and 3rd and 4th and 5th) I wouldn't be Catholic right now.

So yeah, I blieve in them.

Kat,

Some time back you had mentioned that you were quite active in your parish being a lector, Eucharistic Minister etc. So I feel you are the right person to ask this question. Would you have done all this different volunteering jobs if you felt that the people around didn't trust you (and you didn't have the faintest reason why) ? Asking is definately not an option. I meant without basic trust what is there? Don't get me wrong I LOVE volunteerig but don't feel people trust me and it really bothers me because I don't know why.

I have even stopped going to Mass.

Anon;

Whatever you do don't listen to that 'feeling' because anything that leads you to stop going to Mass isn't from God.

I really don't know the whole picture so I can't really go into any detail as far as advice or anything but if it is just a 'feeling' or a vibe you think you are getting from people and its not rooted in anything then don't listen to it, maybe talk to you pastor or whoever heads up your activity. But again I really don't know whats going on so I can't really give any advice beyond that...

Hi Kat,

Although you don't know the whole picture your answer made a lot of sense to me.

Thanks!

I was very close to my grandmother and she too lived very far from me. I can only imagine what anguish you must be going through. I just wanted to let you know that your grandmother is in my prayers.

You are right and I have gone back to Mass.

I have been thinking about this all day and feel it is a feeling not really rooted in anything so I won't worry about it.

Thanks for listening!
